    Lady Gaga-Born This Way

After much anticipation, at least at my house, Lady Gaga finally released her new single, Born This Way All I can say is this song is AMAZING. Good job, Lady Gaga, and thanks for being a voice for so many kids who can’t speak for themselves. [youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4a8QtvOkBQ&w=425&h=349]

Not all chicken sandwiches believe in equal rights

Bryan Safi does it again! This time he takes on Chick-fil-A and their support of organizations who are against gay marriage. While there aren’t too many Chick-fil-A restaurants in my area, I did used to eat there whenever I visited my sister in Atlanta. Sure their chicken may be great, but not when it’s dosed with a bitter helping of anti-gay rhetoric. So they can keep their sandwiches and waffle fries, because I’ll never eat there again.

    The Gay Van

It’s been a month since my seventeen-year old son, Cody, came out. For the most part things have been going great. Both sides of the family fully accepted him for who he is, he has a great group of friends and he’s so much more comfortable in his skin. A couple of months ago, he even started the first GSA ever at his high school. Nearly all of the administration and staff at his school supported him. He did have some issues with getting one of the secretaries to announce the meetings and the school librarian has decided that he deserves a hundred or so dirty looks. His principle was…

    Hope-Harvey Milk Speech

On November 27th 1978, Harvey Milk was assassinated by Dan White. Milk, who was the first openly gay man elected to California public office, served as an inspiration to countless GLBT individuals. His legacy of hope continues to live on and he is a true American hero. I had the chance to listen to one of his more famous speeches today and it struck a strong emotional chord with me. As a mother of a gay teen, I know all too well all the prejudice and obstacles that are still out there. Even though Cody works and pays taxes, like any other American, he can’t marry or serve his country.…

It’s Time to Stop the Hate

Cody and Judy Shepard Last night I had the distinct honor of being able to hear Judy Shepard speak at Lawrence Tech University. For those of you don’t know, in 1998 Judy’s son, Mathew, was the victim of a hate crime. His attackers viciously beat him because he was gay. He eventually succumbed to his injuries six days after. As a mother, I can’t even begin to fathom the pain Mrs. Shepard went through. To lose a child is every mother’s worst nightmare and I don’t know if I would have her courage. After Mathew’s death, Judy decided that she would become a crusader against hate. She formed the Mathew…

    Homophobia Kills

On Friday, October 8th, hundreds of people gathered at New York City’s Grand Central Station to conduct a Flash Mob Die-In. Their message was “Homophobia Kills”. While the protesters laid down, two of the organizers read off the names of GBLT victims suicide or murder.
